Press release on the meeting of the World Coordinating Council of Russian Compatriots Living Abroad

On May 27, a regular meeting of the World Coordinating Council (WCC) of Russian Compatriots Living Abroad was held with the Foreign Ministry’s assistance. The event was held via videoconference. Along with the WCC members, it was attended by representatives of the Foreign Ministry and the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly.

The participants appreciated the large contribution of compatriots to organising and holding numerous events devoted to the 75th anniversary of Victory, in a generally accessible digital format. In this new reality, special mention was made of the assistance that compatriots continue rendering to Russian citizens that have found themselves in a predicament abroad, as well as mutual aid in the diaspora. They discussed in detail the importance of supporting and promoting the Russian language abroad that serves as the pillar of the Russian World, consolidating the women’s movement of compatriots, and further stepping up work with the youth and cooperation with the business community.

The participants reviewed opportunities for enhancing the efficiency of the WCC and strengthening its thematic groups with the involvement of authoritative experts from among Russian compatriots. They discussed in detail the communication structure of the Russian-speaking communities and prospects for the WCC’s efforts to enhance the coordination of information work by compatriot organisations in different countries.
